Le M1911 et sa version 1911A1 sont restés l'arme de poing réglementaire américaine jusqu'à leur remplacement officiel par le 9 mm Beretta en 1985.A John Browning and Colt cartridge that appeared with the Colt Model 1905 pistol; after the Thompson-LaGarde tests led Ordnance to call for a .45 caliber, the U.S. Army adopted it with the Colt M1911 pistol. The M1911 and its 1911A1 version remained the standard U.S. sidearm until officially replaced by the 9 mm Beretta in 1985.
