Balistique de compétition
Competition ballistics

A complete guide and an online calculator for long-range precision shooting. This guide covers the whole ballistic chain, from the behaviour of the powder in the chamber to the impact on a target beyond 1,000 metres. Each concept comes with mathematical models. For a long time they were described as validated against JBM Ballistics, but they were not really: the first automated comparison with an independent solver, on 22 August 2026, revealed incorrect supersonic drag tables, which have since been corrected. Validation now relies on published cases from the literature and on two test benches run every night: parity between the two implementations, and comparison with a third-party reference. The 6-DOF model is no longer a project: it is implemented and verified on three published cases — McCoy's .308 Win 168 gr example, the 105 mm HE M1 shell, and the 5.56 mm NATO family measured at the Ballistic Research Laboratory. What limits its everyday use is not the solver but the availability of measured aerodynamic coefficients, published for only a handful of projectiles: for sport shooting, 3-DOF remains the right tool.

Pressure remains indicative. Theory and validation & limits on the wiki (in French), and producing your own data (in French) to anchor the estimate on your own measurements. Never develop a load from these values alone.
